First Lady Laquetta Carter attended Church of the Living God temple 45, Bishop Luke C. Nichols on Madison Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The oldest of 2 girls, she accepted her call to Christ at the age of 10.
Lady Carter is a graduate of Doss High school, Western Kentucky University, University of Louisville, and Bellarmine University earning her highest degree as an Educational Specialist in Instructional Leadership and Administration. She is currently a school administrator in Jefferson County Public Schools.
Lady Carter believes the scripture James 1:21-22 is the scripture that got her through college. 21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. It helped her stay focused and to be a doer of the word.
Being a doer of the word, Lady Carter presented her body as a living sacrifice when she demonstrated against a hate group in 2002. This led her to deliver her first sermon and receive international recognition. Laquetta had a tree planted in Israel because of her bravery during the demonstration. Other recognitions include Martin Luther King Adult Leadership Award, Award of Excellence Proclamation of Jefferson County Commissioners, Delahanty-Shobe Tucker Humanitarian Award, and displayed in the Underground Railroad Freedom Center in “Everyday Freedom Heroes” exhibit. Despite this she speaks of her nervousness when delivering her first sermon.
In December 2003, Laquetta was invited to attend St. Mary’s Missionary Church, in New Albany, Indiana, Pastor Keith D. Carter. It was during that service that Laquetta knew she found her new church home. It was a few years later that Pastor Carter found a romantic interest in Lady Carter. They married in July of 2009.
